2025-2026 Symphonic Season in Review
October 18, 2025 - “The American Mosaic”
We performed music that represents the ideal of Unity Through Diversity: the synthesis of various ideas, cultures, styles, and experiences into a magnificent whole.
We were inspired by the patriotic narrations of Boulder Mayor, Aaron Brockett, during Liberty Fanfare and A New Birth of Freedom, touched by the memories of Del Pakiser and Cody Jackson as the brass section played Ave Maria, and dazzled by Katie Hughes’s virtuosic rendering of Rhapsody in Blue. Sheri VandeRiet shared a couple of colorful quilts to complete the mosaic.
December 6, 2025 - “A Season of Joy”
The Boulder Concert Band was thrilled to present "A Season of Joy," with fun and exciting music evocative of this festive holiday season.
Dr. Ryan Gardner, Professor of Trumpet at the University of Colorado at Boulder, was featured in brilliant solo performances of L’esprit de la trompette and Concierto de Aranjuez. Dr. Jennifer Grice, Director of the Thornton Community Band, was Guest Conductor on Morton Lauridson’s O Magnum Mysterium.
The audience joined us in singing The Twelve Days of Christmas! and our concert was made complete with Leroy Anderson’s Sleigh Ride and a snowball fight!
February 21, 2026 – “Fanfare and Funk”
Our challenging February concert featured Fanfare and Funk, a very fun piece by Oliver Waespi, as well as Vesuvius by Frank Ticheli, Bugs by Roger Cichy. We also performed Bernard Herrman’s “North by Northwest” arranged by Tory Markiewicz, and Ola Gjeilo’s “Lake Isle” arranged by Mike Taylor, both members of the Boulder Concert Band. We were joined by special guests, SAFONIA, a treble choral ensemble dedicated to the synergy of music, passion, and excellence, for the performance of Psalm & Alleluias for Wind Band and Treble Chorus, composed by band member Sheri A. VandeRiet.

April 18, 2026 – “Celebrations!”
We concluded our Symphonic Season with music that dances and evokes literary themes, including Danzón No. 2 by Arturo Marquez, Of Sailors and Whales by W. Francis McBeth (based on Melville’s Moby-Dick), and Riften Wed by Julie Giroux. Also featured were Andrew Snyder and Sam French, a Smith-Corona-Marchant manual typewriter and a Service Bell on Leroy Anderson’s The Typewriter. The Firefly Winds opened the concert with some fun music.
We were happy to see you in the audience, and hope you enjoyed the concert!
Congratulations to Ian Markiewicz for winning the Celebrations candy Silent Auction! Thank you to everyone who placed bids. We are so grateful for your support.
